David,

/home is a common directory found on UNIX systems. To the best of my
knowledge it is used to store common files accessed by all users. You
might find that each user has a "home" directory, too. It's often found
under the /etc directory, but can be anywhere the sysadmin wants it to
be.

Temporary files are usually stored in the /tmp or /temp directory. This
is not automatically cleared like the AS/400 QTEMP library. It is
usually cleared by the system administratory periodically.
