Bruce, Get ready for some interesting work with the Telnet protocol! Once you have gotten past the telnet negotiation phase you will be home free, but that can be interesting/frustrating. I suggest you take a look at the RFC (853) and a good Telnet reference. Be aware that different platforms will behave differently on the negotiation phase. That's why a good FSM implementation will be helpful. Is Telnet really required? UNIX does sockets stuff well and that's much easier to deal with....
