Remember the old System/3 Model 10...I think it came with 2 2.5mb drives   
(1 fixed, 1 removable). Anyway, we decided to upgrade the the 5.0 mb   
HDD...the CE comes out, opens the back of the disk drive, removes a metal   
stop. Keys into the console for about 30 seconds...and lo! and behold!   
Upgraded while you wait.

Then there was the old card reader/punch used on the IBM/1130.  Model 1
(the slow one) was upgradable to Model 2 (the fast one).  How?  They   
pulled
the first 2 gears from the drive train and changed the ratio.  Of course,
we had more misfeeds with the faster model and ended up slowing it back
down again....
