This magic Q... profile/password was around on the earliest Sys/38.

I often bring it out on Tips & Techniques nights at our user group.

This little oddity has been around since at least V2.  I believe it was
added so
that the AS/400 could support numeric user profiles, or at least user
profiles
that started with numeric characters. I always assumed that it was for
interoperability with other systems that supported leading numerics in
the user
profile/ID field.
