OLE/db

I've had a query from a customer wanting to do some sort of transaction
processing from an NT server to an AS/400. Remote users will dial into the
NT through terminal server and access a VB application. They want the VB
application to be able to perform DDM type record level database access.
They've mentioned OLE db and SNA server. This is not my "bag" so I'm
looking for any info I can get.
