We too are using a PIX from Cisco. We are thinking of using IBM's IPCS version
for our Canadian operation for some sort of dial through the Internet
operation. Why IBM? Because we have IPCS' laying around on the shelf and it
should be cheaper, (installation wise), than the PIX.

I'd be reluctant to use routers as a firewall. my experience is with Ciscos
and while they do pretty good at securing your network with access lists, I
know they can be cracked. For peace of mind get a firewall and place it
between the inet and your network. We're installing a Pix (from Cisco) within
the next couple of weeks.

Hello All

I am looking for some opinions or experiences from this knowledgeable
group. We are
going to get an internet connection that will come from the phone company
into our
frame relay network. Our AS400 and Novell file servers are all connected
to this same
network. The phone company is saying that we can use the router as a
firewall rather
than buying a true firewall. Are there any of you out there that are or
would consider doing that? It makes me nervous as there are 4 banks
running on our AS400.
