It is my understanding that the current ISO SQL standard (1992) defines
the table name length as being implementation defined.  A future ISO
standard is expected to require a minimum of 18 characters, with a
recommendation for table names up to 128 characters.

FIPS SQL currently does call for a minimum of 18 characters.

DB2/400 SQL currently supports up to 128 characters for non-QTEMP
residing tables.
