  • Subject: Training for AS/400 "newbies"

Hi Folks,

I have had several queries recently from folks wanting to learn RGP on
the AS/400.

I'm not sure what exactly to tell them. You need to know RPG but you
also need to understand the database, files, commands, etc.

If the options at local colleges offer these separately, is it the
"chicken before the egg" deal or does one make more sensed than than the
other (I guess I would HOPE that an entry level RPG course would cover
SOME of the other... (?)).?

Does anyone know of interactive/CD training or really good ENTRY level
books ?

One is a good Unix programmer and the other is a Cobol programmer (in
College) but actually a very proficient query user (so he knows the
AS/400 file layouts, physicals vs logicals, etc. at least...)

Thanks !

Chuck
