I wasn't actually proposing that the spec's reside within the code, just that
it had worked well on another platform.  Joe's "binding" idea would certainly
be more relevant in _today's_ environment.  Personally, I feel that _ALL_
column-based DDS is a _LOUSY_ replacement for both I _AND_ O specs.  All IBM
has done is shift related components (programs) into unrelated areas (files),
and force users of non-columnar languages to deal with columns whether they
like it or not.  I would no more suggest a return to O specs than I would one
to I specs for DSPFs.  Besides, I _DESPISE_ specifying end positions when
every other language in the universe specifies _START_ positions!
