8-port local controllers still have a limitation of 40 active devices. Many of the newer RISC machines come with a 4-port base controller that supports the full 28 attachable devices. Some older models, and the 150 series, came with two ports supporting 14 devices, or 7 if it was a server model with a limitation on active devices forced by OS/400.
