Yep!  I've been to Europe several times. and the European
standard sometimes confuses the heck out of me.

I try to avoid the ambiguity myself by using either ISO format,
or an abbreviation of the month name.  One of my hobbies is
genealogy, where a common date format is 24JUL1998.  (Of course,
genealogists have been Y2K compliant for years!)
