Uh, OK. But even today, under APPC, we, the users, don't need to write any
programs to get this "support". What was the justification for not
preserving functionality that made our lives much easier? Why do we keep
losing features when going to TCP/IP (which I otherwise champion)? Why,
under Graphical Access command line options, you can give a device name AND
a device name suffix. But I'll bet it works only under APPC. Why not under
TCP/IP? And without us needing to write something to accomplish what USED
to be done by the system provided to us?

I hate losing some of the "good" things when we move to a "better" way of
doing things. And that's what I see happening alot when moving to TCP/IP
and graphical interfaces. What it looks like (I can definitely be wrong) is
that those who are designing the new stuff don't remember or refer to
design decisions made in the earlier forms of the products.
