Dave:

You can define a date format stand alone field.  What you cannot do is
initialize that field with a value that doesn't match the default date
format for that program.  If you will remove the INZ(D'91/164') parameter
from your example, it will compile.  Then, you can move a value to the
field.  I'm with you though, It looks like it would be more useful to be
able to initialize the field with a matching value.
