I agree with the "not many" part, but in fact, I'm an exception to that
statement.  When I graduated with
a BS in Computer Info Systems in 1987, I'd never heard of a system 38 or
RPG.  I was hired precisely because of that; they wanted someone with no
bad habits that they could train to code the way they wanted.

I spent my first three weeks paid to attend  IBM school in NYC learning RPG
II, RPG III (oooh, coding sheets!!), and DDS. (I wound up teaching myself
CL from reading manuals and other peoples programs.)

It worked out quite well; all the code pretty much looked alike and it was
nice from a programming perspective because you could go into anyone else's
program and feel right at home changing it.  They also had the best coding
& naming standards I've seen at any shop, and the standards were quite well
adhered to.
