Chuck, if I understand the problem correctly, what you need is an FDF file. An
FDF file is the equivelent of an external description for the PC file, where the
field names etc. correspond to the file on the AS/400.
The easiest way to generate this file is as follows:-

1). Create the required file on the AS/400. This is the file that will 
eventually
receive the PC data.

2). Transfer this file to the PC, ensuring that the PC file generated will
conform to the layout of the PC file you will be uploading. Ensure that you
generate an FDF file.

3). Transfer your PC file to the AS/400, ensuring that you specify the FDF file
generated in step 2.

This works using the Transfer options in the Client Access Folder, not the
Send/Receive options on PC5250.
