I wasn't saying that there are _NO_ premium apps available. My experience tells 
me, however, that most shops tend to flog the horse long after it's dead. Apps 
that should be rewritten or replaced are not because management wants to 
maximize ROI. As this software ages, it becomes more and more difficult to 
maintain. This is a cycle that eventually leads to dissatisfaction with the 
"System".

There are some premium quality applications for the AS/400.  Four of the 
top five ERP systems run on the AS/400.  Oracle Applications being the 
exception -- something to do with a piece of software that competes with 
DB2/400.  One thing I learned during ERP system evaluation is SAP R/3 
was originally developed on the AS/400.  At that time R/3 would not 
scale on the AS/400 so it was moved to UNIX.
