Hi Chuck,

I assisted in a S36 homegrown system conversion to Mincron about 5 years
ago or so. The client was a small valve distributor here in Milwaukee.
>From memory, the lead Mincron programmer on the project (remote, in Texas)
was Maurico Fainbolm (sic?), who seemed to know the files in and out. I
was just writing conversion programs to map files. The financials were a
little unusual in that there were quite a few files that had to balance
against each other during month end processing, and this needed to be
watched out for. It did create a good level of accuracy. The software went
live very easily and on schedule, everything went without a hitch, no
programming fixes necessary from day 1, only problem all day was a printer
that wasn't messaging correctly, easily fixed.

The client has been fairly happy with the software, but feels that perhaps
it is more package than she needs. She was very unhappy with the price of
the upgrade to get Y2K compliant, told the vendor to get lost, gave a bad
reference, then suddenly had Mincron's attention and was able to negotiate
a better deal. She will be proceeding with the upgrade soon, the package
is practically vanilla with any mods done by Mincron, should go well.

She's had an occasional problem with a remote programmer at Mincron
dropping her production machine here, they are probably just not used to
working on a production machine.

That's just about all I can think of about that particular project, if
there's any way I can help you, email me. The client is now a good
friend of mine, so I can call and ask.

Good luck with your distributor, I think you'll find it to be somewhat
different from a manufacturing environment. Distributors are fast paced
and fun, but also lean and mean, you really get to use your creativity
there!

HTH
