CD \workdir is ran before you start TCP/IP to change into whatever your working directory is on your PC. I use lower case to signify put your own values here. So you can ping your 400 and you are connecting with TCP/IP via NT - this is a good start. Let's check and see if you've started the FTP server. Do a NETSTAT and take option 3 or do NETSTAT OPTION(*CNN). Do you see: Local Port ftp-con > If not then do STRTCPSVR SERVER(*FTP) Again do the NETSTAT and check. If this is now going try the following on your NT client: Start Programs MS Dos command prompt ping use either your AS/400 name as defined by your Domain Name Server (DNS) or use the ip address with the format xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx. One of our 400's is named GDISYS. If the ping still works then try ftp use either your AS/400 name as defined by your Domain Name Server (DNS) or use the ip address with the format xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx In our case we use: ftp gdisys We get: Connected to gdisys.sna.ibm.com 220-QTCP at GDISYS 220 Connection will close if idle for more than 5 minutes User (gdisys.sna.ibm.com:(none)): I then enter my AS/400 user id. Then I get: 331 Enter password. Password: Try this. Thanks Rob, Now I become a pest... What do you mean by the CD /workdir ? I assume this means any subdirectory on the PC or is it something specific the the AS/400's file system ? I tried starting FTP (and I am a real NOVICE when it comes to stuff like this on the AS/400) and I get "cannot connect to host xxxxxx.xxx.xxx.COM (where all the x's are valid names) at address xxx.xx.xx.x. (where all the x's are valid numbers) try again. I can ping the AS/400 and I am connecting to the AS/400 via TCP/IP at my NT Workstation. Host Servers is started (has to be started for me to connect via CA or I get an error), etc. What am I missing ? Thanks !!
