Well, -I- never realized that you could do it. And IBM never really emphasized the capability (ie "If you wanna, you can load this stuff now and IPL later"). The PTF procedure has always been a 'guru function' around here: we make a Pilgrimage to The Computer Room, take over the machine(s), and weave incantations over the Black Boxes for several hours. Thinking back, the instructions have mentioned something about "If you choose not to IPL now, remember to do so for the PTFs to take effect" for some time. It's only recently when there's so much to do and not enough time to do it that I've started (read 'been forced to try') loading PTFs ahead of time (ie Wednesday for the Saturday IPL), and letting the Operators do a 'long IPL.' It's also the only way to handle remote AS/400s!
