Tim: You can create a DDM file on your test machine that points to your production machine and then issue a CPYF on your test machine. The from file is the DDM file the to file is the new file you want your test data, specify create file *YES, and you can avoid all the steps you mentioned. Also, if you have TCP/IP configured between the systems, you can start FTP to the production machine and issue a GET command. FTP is quicker than DDM and will create the file on the fly on the test system, however (as far as I know), there is NO way to specify that only part of the file is to be transfer. (like you can with the IF parameter on a CPYF command). Hope this helps,.
