Dean, 

Well, on the mainframe the "F" does indeed change to a "C"
or "D" if the field is used as a result field in COBOL, I'm
not sure about DB2 but sense the result would be in a host
variable, I can't help but believe it to be true there as
well. Now on the 400, I think I will do somemore diging just
to satisfy my own curiousity.
