I certainly would not go so far as "Extremely easy", though the problem is not that the final program is difficult or complex, but rather that there are HUNDREDS of configuration options/parameters that must be figured out before it will work. The communications manuals often make cryptic references to options or technologies of which there is _NO_ information available. Lots of running around in the manuals for very little practical information. Make sure you have your manuals on CD available. Having said that, now I'd like to point out that I've never heard of a machine that CANNOT talk to the AS400 in some fashion (except possibly my Win95 PC, which appears to occasionally speak in languages not of this earth). :) You've already found the BEST resource available: MIDRANGE-L! Don't let yourself get frustrated if it seems to be leeching the life out of you. ;/ Eric A DeLong ericadelong@pmsc.com ______________________________ Reply Separator _________________________________ Subject: Re: Communication to Banks Author: <MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com > at INTERNET Date: 6/9/98 8:48 PM Extremely easy---that is compared to one's preconceptions of the whole thing. See ICF files. Remember, a modem looks just like another file to the AS/400. You open it, see if it opened, then write & read records. Now I ain't one who's seen a pile of shops...I've worked in 5. But I've rarely seen AS/400's used for communications. In fact, I've only written ONE app that writes A/P info to some bank out in la-la land. But after that experience, I walked away with the feeling that our favorite box is rarely used for more than 50% of what it's capable of. What a box!
