"Niceness" usually means "something that can't be maintained", as you've suggested. What is the cost in time (=$$$$$$) when there are tricky techniques in place? It seems you want one monolithic program to validate all commands. This is not, IMO, AS/400-ish. It's not even modular or structured technique. But I could be wrong.
