If you purchase one WITH an AS/400 as feature code 0032, all the dip switches as set correctly for Sync use on an AS/400 (eg. for ECS modem usage). If you purchase it via the IBM part # for Options by IBM the modem does NOT come with the switches set for Sync usage. You need to set dip switch 4 down, 7 up, & 12 Up. The complete switch settings are: UUDDUUUDDUDUUUUU Note that as this modem is made by Multitech (an MT2834BL) you can use that and make the same switch settings also. Also, the Multitech MT2834BA is a cheaper version, missing only the leased line capability.
