WROTE : The info I received from all the gracious folks on the list regarding multiformat logical files was the perfect solution until today when I found out that not all the sites are moving from a System 36 to an AS/400 at the same time. Some will stay on the 36 for awhile. The very sticky problem is that some files are shared by sites. Those sites that are not upgrading now need the multiple record type files and the sites that are upgrading need the multiformat logicals with separate physical files. They do not want to run in the 36 environment on the AS/400. Are there any other options? Thanks, Darlene Brengle Norsoft, Inc. Here is my 2 cents: Need to share files across System/36 and AS/400 machines Can you Distribute at night ? Can you Use Passthru ? In the System/36 the Equivalent of a Multi Format Logical File Is .... An RPG pgm with Sequential Files with Level Breaks and Matching Records . . . It works ... just position the data base cursors and let the RPG cycle do it's thing I beleive the look ahead feature in RPG and the SPECIAL file support in RPG can help you too. Can you distribute changed records In some sort of simulated 2 phased commitment Control ... Using *DTAQ(s) ? Why the running of the System/36 Environment on the AS/400 is such an impediment ? Too Much room for Data Corruption using Local Files Best of luck to you Jorge Moreno / Military Car Sales / Woodbury, New York +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
