I recently set up several shipping stations using Symbol bar code scanners and 
scales
attached.  The scale attached to the scanner control box which attached to a 
terminal
(or PC) keyboard wedge.  It works extremely well and was relatively simple to 
put in
production (once tech support helped me figure out some "non-standard" commands 
used
by their control box).
