Long-time RPG-ers will probably like the first example. IMO, the second is better as it uses new techniques and is more similar to other languages. If you have a shop full of RPG loyalists that won't be leaving any time soon, use the first. If you're trying to convince newcomers that RPG isn't the devil incarnate, use the second!
