Model 600, part of history? -- MIDRANGE-L

A Business Partner told my client, today, that the model 600 was history
and he should be looking at a model 170 instead?
Any thruth to that statement?

Is there any advantage to get a model 170-2159 today and move to a
170-2164 next year, as opposed to getting the 2164 today?
