I havn't seen certification mean much up to this point, sad to say. It may look impressive on a resume and may make the difference between two canidates, but I havn't seen a real dollar value attached to it, yet. Would seem to be of more value to consultant firms at this point, what with the need to impress clients when selling the service. That said, what am I doing? Looking forward to taking the IBM test shortly, working on my CCP cert. and trying to finish an MBA. The MBA will probably put more money in my pocket in the near future, but I can see where the possible future liability issues surrounding Y2K could push our chosen profession into licensing and certification, just like a doctor or lawyer. Just my 2 cents. I'm new to the list and just wondered how IBM certification is viewed in your company. Is it valued? Is it expected of all programmers? Does anyone even notice? Does it impact salary? Do you find it personally helpful? I'd be very interested in hearing from you on this. (I ask because I was a bit surprised to learn that it doesn't really make much difference in the company I work for.)
