Well, I don't think it would be straight-forward. Considering the amount of work needed versus the amount of benefit, I don't think the function could compete against other items which would be of more benefit to most RPG programmers. If you need some sort of lookahead on sequential reads to an externally described file, you could probably manage nicely using externally described data structures and READ into DS.
