Stream I/O on user spaces -- MIDRANGE-L

Hey all:

In the V3R6 OS/400 Integratef File System Introduction it says:

QSYS.LIB Distinguishing Features
-Supports all user interfaces and programming interfaces that
 operate on AS/400 libraries and objects in those libraries.
-Supports all programming languages and facilities that operate
 on database files.
-Provides extensive administrative support for managing AS/400
 objects.

Has anyone actually tried to do stream I/O on user spaces?  If so, how'd
you make out?  Any code anyone can share?
