So basically there is no longer a visual indication (the % on the displays or
reports) that show the 3590 as the alternate IPL device?  I have the same
situation, and I'm worried that I have to just trust that everything will be
OK.  When you need the alternate IPL device the most is when you can least
afford there being an error!  

Has anyone performed a non-destructive test to check if their expected tape
drive is actually the AIPL device?  Is there such thing as a non-destructive
02/D IPL?
