Not exactly true.....
The S/36EE is not an emulation.  The same low level functions are performed (ie:
S/36 COPYDATA is just a command processor front end to whatever it is that CPYF
calls).  A program described file is a program described file, performance is 
the
same.

The only real performance hit for the S/36EE is how the S/36 application is
designed.  But then again, a poorly designed native application can have a 
negative
performance impact.

With all that said, a 436 will outperform any 400 model at twice the cost if 
all you
want is more disk space.  Even at that, I'm sure that there are lots of shops 
that
will be content to stay a V3R2 for a loooong time and really get their monies
worth.  There are still shops running V2R3 and have been getting every pennies
worth. :)

Unless you have a need for OS/400 functions, you will not be disappointed by the
performance of a 436.  I ran a comparison to a model 200 with a 6.2 RPR and the 
436
still beat it.  Although over time you will start to get that lonely Maytag
repairman feeling when you shop for operators, programmers, parts, etc.

BTW, anyone have the installed customer count for the many flavors of AS/400 
and a
possible breakout of which OS level they are at?
