Here is some information about the client support for the new TCP/IP print function in TELNET server. Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) for AS/400 Version 4 Release 2 ------------------------------------------------------------------- TELNET 5250 Extensions ---------------------- AS/400 V4R2 TELNET includes significant new capabilities. New security and automation enablement has been added to the AS/400 Telnet server including exit program support, virtual device selection, printer passthrough, session reconnect support, expanded national language flexibility, and optional bypass of the sign-on panel. NOTE: to make use of some of these new Telnet features, client emulator software will need to be upgraded. Client include Network station, Personal Communications, and Client Access. In more detail, the new security and automation enablement include: o Registered TELNET server exits have been added for both session initialization and session termination. These exits require only that a customer-written, user exit program be registered at the proper exit point. No changes are needed for the connecting TELNET client emulator, so existing clients would be able to immediately benefit from this new feature. o Virtual Device selection by the attaching client (or a registered TELNET server exit program) provides for more traditional job-routing to preferred subsystems and allows for associated work management tuning. With Virtual Device selection, preferred code page, character set, and keyboard attributes can be established on a per session basis, thereby offering greater flexibility in national language support. o Printer passthru support consists of two new terminal types (IBM-3812-1 and IBM-5553-B01) which provide additional printer support for the TCP/IP environment. This support allows the TELNET server to provide the client with the flexibility to dynamically create and/or select a virtual printer device through enhanced negotiation, or via assignment by the initialization exit program. o TELNET Session disconnect/reconnect (QDEVRCYACN) is enabled for display sessions that use "consciously selected" device names. o TELNET and Virtual Terminal API Connected Display sessions are now subject to the settings of QINACTITV (INACTive Interactive job Time-out Value) which specifies when the system takes action on inactive interactive jobs. o Automatic sign-on (optional bypass of the sign-on procedure) is enabled for TELNET display sessions which have specific settings for the QRMTSIGN system value. TELNET Client Information ------------------------- o Network Station Support is included for Network Stations as of Release V4R1M0. o Personal Communications Support is included for 5250 Printer Session and Workstation ID in the standalone version of PCOMM in CSD1 for PCOMM 4.2 Win95/NT. This support does not include code page, character set or keyboard exchange. This CSD is expected to be available in late 1998. o Client Access Please refer to Information APAR II10918 for more up to date information than may be listed here. New releases and PTF numbers will be found there. You can also visit the Client Access internet link for the latest information: http://www.as400.ibm.com/clientaccess AS/400 Client Access for Windows 95/NT is providing the following TCP/IP enhancements: 1) PC5250 Print Emulation 2) Workstation ID Support 3) Bypass Signon Support (AutoLogon) In order for users to be able to take advantage of this new support, PTFs will be required on both the Client and Server.
