Jerry, Seems to me that when you are a vendor selling your own product, you should identify yourself as such. Especially when your post was un-solicited. In fact, doesn't that in and of itself violate the "rules" of this list? And FYI, we use LPD/LPR printing and do NOT use host print transform. With very good success. Even printing fax's (which are bitmaps) on an HP OfficeJet Pro. This LPD/LPR setup is our only printer on the system. So I think your "benchmark" is very focused on a particular situation. Just as a matter of courtesy to those on the list and to let folks know of your probable bias. When I mention my product (Fax Server/401, the BEST as/400 based Fax solution available) I let them know that I am the Developer of the product and just a little (not much however <g>) biased. You will also notice that on the recent discussion of AS/400 fax solutions, I did not comment on any other products. This was not because I am not familiar with my competition (I am very familiar with it), but because this is NOT the forum for that. I would love to discuss the pro's and con's of my product versus say Quadrant's, Fax Star's or the IBM product. But, I for one would like to keep the Midrange-L list "pure". If I am wrong on this assumption, please let me know & I will turn my marketing folks loose on the list. This will of course lead to a total degradation of the list. It is not the occasional unsolicited posting from you. Or me, but when all of the vendors out there who currently are silent start advertising on this list, the list will become worthless. Situation One: AS/400 model 200, unstressed, V3R2, HP 3X Printserver (TCP/IP aware product) on ethernet LAN, 10baseT, with HP Laserjet 4Plus printer. It took 3.5 hours and never got done (59% CPU util). Host print transform dramatically impacted the AS/400. Situation Two: Synapse WinAPPC TCP/IP LPD Client started printing the report after 3 minutes. This is because of the ability of the Synapse to handle SCS print strings in native mode. Only change on the AS400 outq is to make Transform to *NO and destination type to *OS400. Installed by inexperienced user to boot. HMMMMMM.
