Jon, and others, After receiving conflicting replies I decided to try some tests. It appears that system programs are ignored when the activation group for *CALLER programs is set. This is very good news in our environment. We have been specifying *CALLER for all programs and service programs. I spent a few hours looking but have yet to find a line in a manual that says something like "programs created with ACTGRP(*CALLER) and invoked by system state programs will derive their activation group from the prior user state program on the stack". I guess the key word in the following text taken from the ILE concepts manual is "Originates". "ILE programs and ILE service programs can be activated in the OPM default activation groups if two conditions are satisfied: The ILE programs or ILE service programs were created with the activation group *CALLER option. The call to the ILE programs or ILE service programs originates in the OPM default activation groups." Thanks for your patience, David Morris >>> Jon Paris <paris@ca.ibm.com> 01/26 11:41 AM >>> >> "I have a trigger program .... trigger pgm is also specified as Activation Group (*Caller). Inside my trigger, I do a Return without setting on LR and leaving my Sales & Marketing files open. Am I correct to assume that my files remain open on subsequent firings of the trigger (during the life of the job unless I reclaim the AG)." << You are correct - you should also be aware that by using *CALLER you have opened up the possibility that the trigger program can have multiple invocations active at any one time (i.e. one in each AG - including the default - that it gets called in). This may not be what you want.
