The cost of IBM's 8mm tape drive with the two required adapters nearly doubled the hardware cost of our 600e. Even my IBM agent was appalled. I can't remember the exact cost, but I refused to pay it. It was absolutely absurd. I have been looking at other vendor solutions. Why does IBM continue to shoot themselves in the foot by making stupid little mistakes like this that draws the ire of their customers and disproportionately diminishes the excellence of the AS/400.
