Unit shar/crypt

Must this be exactly the Unix shar/crypt?  There are other techniques that
will also work.

I have a PKZIP, dated 11-20-95 with cryptographic utilities that look
suspiciously similar.  Let me know if it must be exact or if you merely
require a one-way hash.
