I think you might be trying to go against an unkeyed or non-unique keyed file. The jet engine that all MS apps use for ODBC access demands that the AS/400 file have a unique key. If the file has a unique key field, either recompile it as such or build a logical over it. If it doesn't, you could just add a field with some unique value and define it as the unique key (either of the physical or a logical over it).
