In addition to the following reply, it also depends whether you are writing ILE program or embedded SQL program. Because in these scenarios it varies how you setup your activation groups and compilation options. srinivas.rao@ipaper.com ______________________________ Reply Separator _________________________________ Subject: Re: dynamic program CALLS Author: midrange.com!midrange-l-owner@mcs.com at INTERNET Date: 12/3/97 12:20 PM >>"If PGM_A contains a dynamic call: 'CALL PGM_B' and that line of code is executed 1,000 times, does the EXACT SAME PROCESS occur 1,000 times? "<< The answer (as always) is "it depends". Assuming that PGM_B is an RPG program, then as long as it doesn't set on LR before returning, then second and subsequent calls will be faster as the caller already has a resolved pointer for the target program. If LR was set on (or a RCLRSC was done before the second call) then the whole process has to be repeated. Was there a particular reason for asking this?
