>> I am in charge of developing a client / server system. I would >>like all the input this group can supply me. I am in the very early stages >>(picking software, middleware, etc....) of development. This sounds like real fun. I'm jealous. Anyhow, for me at least, part 1 of a project like this is always the step you've just taken: looking around. I'd ask the obvious: Who else is doing what you want to do? Look among your competitors, your friends, and similar sized businesses in other industries. If budgets will warrant it, look world-wide, but at least look in your own county. Make field trips - actually see the stuff in action, and see the results. Do a bit of vision-making; If the plant were to burn to the ground, what would it look like when you rebuilt it? What services would be needed? I suggest these ideas because so often one can make spectacular improvement just with a good model, or combination of other people's ideas. For middleware I like Pro-gen. Their new releases have added a great deal and the learning curve is satisfactory. ---------------------------------------------------- Booth Martin --------------------------------------------------- +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to "MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com". | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
