As I understand it, IBM was looking at dropping PL/I support. However, 
after several large customer screamed they revised that decision. PL/I is 
now available as a PRPQ not a LPP. The difference? IBM does not need to 
translate PRPQs into all the supported national languages. So if you want 
PL/I you can get it, but only in English.

I think I read somewhere that IBM was dropping support for pl/1 on the
400.

Funny thing, I also remember something about the fact that OS/400 was
originally written using pl/1.
