>From this weeks NEWS/400 Newswire:

OUT OF CONTEXT: WOULD IBM RATHER SELL NT AND SERVICES?
"NT is going to be the big general-purpose blob in the middle that takes
over the majority of the opportunity. NT is a platform
that all major venders -- excluding Sun -- are looking to take advantage
of, and that includes IBM. IBM is delivering its
software -- Lotus and Tivoli and TransArc -- on NT first. IBM's view is it
can make more money selling NT systems and PC servers
and services and Lotuses and so forth than Microsoft can. And it's right.
It's a big market, and there's much more to be sold
there than just the operating system. So the question in five years is
going to be, would IBM rather sell NT and sell services
and sell Lotus and all the stuff around it? Or would it rather try to sell
AS/400s and perhaps not have as good a revenue
opportunity?"
-- Tom Bittman, Gartner Group AS/400 research director

Maybe this is why they won't market the machine........
