But I wondered >why I couldn't use it to write RPG code on a PC, to run against PC data >files. The graphics and the layout was really good to use and the samples >seemed complete to me. I haven't played with it in a year, but I liked it. VA RPG made it easy to code RPG applications for the PC. It made it easy for me to pick a component and action, and code the routine I wanted run then. I have not played with anyone else's PC RPG builder. I had prior experience with VA C++ and VA Smalltalk, so VisualAge was fairly easy. However, the connections were different in VA RPG and less code generation was done for me based on connections. It did exactly what I was looking for, though, which was to eliminate the hassle of figuring out how to program graphics and a GUI and let me stick with coding application pieces. I never realized there was an "AS/400" side to the component. I thought it simply used my router connection to the AS/400 to access AS/400 objects. One pass through the tutorial showed how easy it was to get stuff done. Chris Rehm Mr.AS400@ibm.net You have to ask yourself, "How often can I afford to be unexpectedly out of business?"
