We know for a fact that we will still have some customers using the existing (heavily customised RPG) software. The new folks will need to become familiar with the old software in order to be able to maintain it, but if we can teach them to write good code, then their effectiveness will go up quicker than if they continue to use the old stuff as a model for new work.
