> On existing systems (beige boxes, and other CISC processors) performance of > date fields is bad. We have a CISC 300-2042. Some years back I started converting all file dates to YYYYMMDD in prep for 2000. When the date data type became available, I first hedged a while, then started using the date data type exclusively for storing dates along with RPGIV (but not the ILE functions). I now have a significant number of applications using date data types that did _not_ use them before. I have not noticed, nor have any users brought to my attention, any performance degradation whatsoever. I am not stating there isn't any, what I am saying is that it is not noticeable under normal day-to-day or month-end operations. I can state, without a doubt, that date data types make date handling an absolute breeze, both from a programming standpoint and from the user's perspective. -- -Jeff jlcrosby@fwi.com +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to "MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com". | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MAJORDOMO@midrange.com | and specify 'unsubscribe MIDRANGE-L' in the body of your message. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
