There are API's now that let you get messages from a joblog--in the message
handling section, I think.

Dean Asmussen brought up CPYFRMQRYF--this _will_ create a true member, and
then the number of records would be available, as he said, with RTVMBRD, or
in the INFDS. Just sure NOT to use OVRDBF before the OPNQRYF statement.
After the OPNQRYF, you'll want to OVRDBF to the file created from the
CPYFRMQRYF.

But I think the ODP must know this, somehow, and there ought to be a more
direct way to get it.
