A side from the difference in parity bits auto-detection, auto-correction
and the like...

Relate this story... We have a plant that's running a AS/400 in a real
24/7 environment without operators etc.
The AS/400's disk drive got sick one night(1am) and without the users knowing
anything was wrong the AS/400 called the IBM support personal and us saying
that it "might" have a disk problem in the near future. It said "I'm OK
but send the doctor". When we came to work in the morning, The IBM support
person was already at the plant, ready to fix the machine. The machine
was fixed in a controlled manner, No data was lost, No disruption to the
user base(we mirror the data, and the users signed on to our backup system
without stopping production, We fixed the disk, switched the users back.)

What chance do you think you would have of a PC giving you a warning that
it might in the near future have a disk drive problem? Or call the support
staff? And keep running.

Which machine is ready for primetime? When a whole plants
production/livelyhood is at stake this type of ability is worth the price.

Or as Chris would say "How often can you afford to be unexpectedly out of
business"?
