/* was the marker in the input card stream on an MFCM or MFCU to indicate
"End-Of-Data."  If you were compiling, it was the end of your source deck.
If executing a program, it was the end of your deck of data cards.

Now, in a CL program, the pair of markers, /* and */ marks a comment
record.  If I remember correctly, you could include a comment on the /*
card as well.
