I've connected ThinkPads utilizing the ibm docking station using isa 5250
and ethernet cards.  No 
problem at all when I did away with the IBM PC OS and installed real
Micro$oft.
Same results with Aptivas.  Do away with IBM PC OS and go with Micro$oft
and strange 
problems go away.  Strange and interesting, but tactic has solved several
head aches concerning
ibm brand pc's connectivity to 400s.
